The Lookout:
Nestled atop a hill in the San Fernando Valley, Cerrillos Lookout offers visitors stunning vistas of the Los Angeles area. It’s a great place to get away from the bustle of daily life and experience some tranquility.
This historic community is also home to some of the best hiking in the region. The town’s old-world charm is a photographer’s delight, with dirt streets and adobe buildings lining the sidewalks.
Turquoise Mining History:
The Cerrillos Hills are best known for their rich turquoise deposits. Its enchanting blue-green hue is thought to have originated here in the early 900’s. The town has been recognized as one of the oldest documented mining districts in the United States, influencing the development and awareness of this rare gemstone across the country and around the world.
It is believed that the Cerrillos Hills are a result of ancient volcanoes that formed them into cone-shaped hills. These peaks offer spectacular views of the Santa Monica Mountains, the Pacific Ocean and Los Angeles.
